Iowa's Courthouses: Floyd County

Start page: Doors

Terrazzo steps from second to third floor, with marble walls and brass railing.
Terrazzo steps are framed with marble sides and wide brass railings. Notice the copper grille at the landing, and the glass block windows.
A view from the door of an office, with metal doors on the right side of the aisle, and wood counter in the background.
This office is typical of the original design. Notice the asbestos tile design on the floor, built-in metal storage units, and a counter with wood siding on the public side and metal cabinets on the working side. Notice the acoustic ceiling tile and metal framed door.
The law library is lined with wood shelves, with wood table and chairs.
The law library is richly lined with walnut paneling and shelves, as well as furniture. Decorative copper grilles over the registers can be seen on the right; out of view from the photo is a striking fluted glass window facing the hallway.

The court room is two stories tall - and the beautiful walnut panel behind the bench is magnificent. The wood inlaid design of the scales of justice are centered behind the judge's bench. The intricate wood pattern at the top of the bench also trims the bar and other fixtures.  Notice the detail near the ceiling.
