"I've Been Everywhere" (Iowa version) Make your own
I was totin' my pack along the long Webster City road,
When along came a semi with a high an' canvas-covered load.
"Goin' to Winterset or West Union? With me you can ride."
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much corn and hay.
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every county in Iowa!"

[Chorus:]
I've been everywhere, man.
I've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the freeway’s bare, man.
I've breathed the country air, man.
Of travel I've had my share, man.
I've been everywhere.

You can do this, too!

I chose to do a project with 99 counties, but you could easily create a manageable project with any theme (places to visit in your town, round barns, barn quilts, dog parks.....wait, I think I've taken most of these tours!)
  1. Select photos to represent your theme
  2. Create your slideshow - I used iMovie for the video, but I also found online sites that help you build slideshows. I used Slideroll for my opening web page, but if you search for online slideshow generator, you will find several options. Find one that lets you zoom and pan the photos within your timeline.
  3. Select your song, and modify the lyrics for your theme.
    1. I chose Hank Snow's "Everywhere" and located the lyrics online.
    2. I changed all the locations to match my courthouse project. I decided to list the courthouses by their city rather than county, because the locations would be more easily recognized.
    3. I located a Karaoke version on iTunes - you might find a midi version for free online, but midi versions won't have backup vocals.
    4. I used Garageband, which allowed me to run the Karaoke track, while recording vocals on a separate track. Most computers have software to record sound- half of the fun is figuring out how to make it work!
  4. Import your very own sound track to the slideshow, then adjust the timing of the photos to match the lyrics.
  5. Upload your video to Youtube or your favorite blog site for an easy way to share your project with everyone!
