Iowa's Courthouses: Adair County

Start page: Doors

Attic view with support beams, brick walls, and angled ceiling. Two windows are in the brick wall
Angled beams support the many gables and towers typical of the Romanesque design. Notice the brick and heavy timbers, dating back to 1891.
View of the courtroom facing the bench on the south. Theater style seats are in the foreground
The courtroom features beautiful oak doors and trim. The ceiling has been lowered, obscuring the original arched windows. The gallery, jury seating, and bench all appear to be from different eras.
A spiral staircase leads from the basement to the tower level. The staircase features carved oak in the public areas.
A spiral staircase connects all levels of the building. It provided access from the former clerk of court office to the courtroom. Note the arched doorways and beautifully carved oak railing, doors, and trim.
A carved oak desk and cabinet in the jury room.
A desk in the jury room mirrors the carving on the stair railing, and the cabinet features the same design as the doors throughout the building.
